This time the blog is written by a Mum who volunteered to come and join the District sleepover. The theme was Children's Authors.
On arrival at Hadlow Fields on Saturday morning lots of parents were apprehensive following dismal weather reports for the weekend. However, the sun was shining and the camp was super-organised - the tents went up in a flash (sort of!). The girls set to work making potions, searching for goodies, and spending every last penny of their permitted £3 in the shop; leaving with change was clearly not an option worthy of consideration by any of the Brownies, and led to some lengthy calculations as to what combination of treats they could afford!
The Brownies clearly enjoyed the food (thanks to the amazing culinary skills of Chef aka Julie) with the majority going back for seconds. The songs around the camp fire lifted the spirits as the rain finally arrived. The change of weather didn't seem to bother the girls - who were happy to shelter snugly zipped in their tents (eating their midnight feasts a little early!).
After a (fairly) good night's sleep the camp woke to bright sunshine on Sunday morning and a 3 course breakfast. The highlight was watching (and listening to) the girls washing their own dishes...quote, Brownie 1: "I don't have to do this at home!" Brownie 2: "Me neither - that's my mum's job."
I asked my daughters what the best bits of camp were and I think they summed it up perfectly when they said, "Playing outside, being with our friends and having lots of fun!"
