Although its only February, it seems as though Spring has been here for ages. The daffodils along our path were out a month ago, cheering the winter evenings. Since the last post, we've had our Christmas celebrations, when the girls entertained their parents and friends with singing and a nativity play at a social evening. We made a little money to keep the lights and heaters on, and strengthened our community links, ( and had fun, even though the girls decided I had to play the part of Angel Gabriel.) And 2 leaders and a girl did manage to play our ukuleles for the singing - here's me practising! The Guides and Senior Section then turned out on our annual visit to sing carols at the hospital, followed by our annual invasion of MacDonalds. Also in December, Frankie, ( a Young Leader) was chosen to take part inThe People's Debate in the House of Lords as a representative of Girlguiding. She said it was really interesting, and a memorable experience. |
In January we started to plan our camps for the year ahead. There will be a sleepover for Brownies and Guides, with visit from the Rainbows, who love to see inside the tents and sing a song by the fire. This will be the first outing for the new tents and equipment which we bought with the grant last summer. |
This term there have been all sorts of activities going on in the units: chinese cookery, first aid, a visit from a Guide Dog and her owner, Scottish dancing for Burns Night, torchlight walks in the woods, drama, singing, crafts and lots of games.
Last week we celebrated World Thinking Day by joining with other districts in a lantern parade along the prom and a campfire on the beach. It was a little chilly, but nothing like the cold you would usually expect on a February evening!
Although my time as a District Commissioner has come to an end, we don't have a replacement, so the jobs are being shared out. I'll keep writing the blogs to keep you all up to date with our activities.
