Last weekend some of the Guides set off for a weekend camp. This had been planned as a Division camp, but in the end just 2 Guide units were involved.
We had planned to have Brownies camping next door, but there was a shortage of adults available, and this plan did not come to fruition.
The theme was 'Pirates', so the patrols were named after famous fictional pirates, although I was somewhat surprised to discover that not only had they never heard of Captain Flint, they had never heard of Treasure Island either!
The weather was mixed but fortunately most of the rain was at night and early morning. By the time the Brownie Pirates arrived for an afternoon of fun, the sun was high in the sky and sun hats and suncream were required.
A traditional Camp Fire is an essential part of camp for me. Sitting around the fire after a busy day, teaching new songs and joining in the old, watching as girls accept the challenge to lead a song is a great way to wind down. Toasted marshmallows and plenty of cocoa is the icing on the cake!
The bad news of the weekend came when we looked closely at the large tunnel tents and realised that their life is nearly over. I will have to start hunting for a replacement, and will be needing some fundraising friends.
