Any questions about volunteering?
Do I have to tie knots?
Not if you don't want to, but if you fancy challenging yourself to learn something new, we can teach you how to tie up a boat at the jetty, or make a washing line at camp, or make a cute owl from macrame! Knots are only a very small part of the skills the girls will learn. In the 21st Century, computer skills, healthy eating, teamwork and helping in the community feature strongly.
What if I can't commit regularly?
There are lots of ways to help us when it suits you, and often at home.
For example; one family produce our termly newsletter.
Some parents help at a special event or outing when extra adults are needed.
Some help at fundraising events.
Or just come along to a working party at the HQ.
What if I wasn't a guide when I was younger?
No problem, Guiding is a game for anyone aged 5 to 105. You can join in at any time of life.
What about the Promise?
Making the Guide Promise is part of training and qualifying as a leader, however any other volunteers are not required (but can choose) to make the Promise.
Criminal Records Checks
Will I have to complete a Criminal Records Disclosure? We require all volunteers who work directly and regularly with young people, or act as Treasurers, to complete a Criminal Records Disclosure. It is an easy procedure and we will provide you with all the help and support you need to complete it.
